Do you believe that every child actually matters?

We are currently looking to expand our Director team and would be interested to hear from individuals who feel they can offer something to our CIC. Please see the role specifications below and if you are interested in either of the roles then please email us at [email protected] to arrange an informal chat.

Content Lead Director

Actually Education was founded to provide a voice to neurodivergent children and young people, as well as those experiencing mental health challenges, within the education system. There is a particular lack of understanding about what being neurodivergent means for a child’s education, and our aim is to reframe the conversation away from a model which focuses on deficit or disorder to one which celebrates different ways of thinking.

We provide resources, information and guidance to parents, carers and educators based on that voice – we build our work on the principle of listening first. Further to this, we believe in co-production and collaboration, and work closely with others to signpost the broadest range of materials. We are a social enterprise operating nationally but based in West Yorkshire.

We are looking for one or more Content Lead Directors to complement our existing skills in Strategy Development, Fundraising, Marketing and Governance. You don’t have to have been a Director before and we are particularly keen to diversify our board, which is currently made up of those with direct experience of the challenges faced by neurodivergent children and young people, but are not representative of this community in terms of race or gender in particular.

We have an existing Director group of five, with two of those being Non-Exec Directors. We are also recruiting for one or more additional Non-Exec Directors. In addition to the general Director role functions (currently undertaken on a voluntary basis), it is envisaged that the Content Lead Director(s) will also be involved on a more regular paid basis to lead the development of our online resources. Being a Director is a great way to develop leadership skills. Our informal, friendly approach is the ideal starting point for someone looking to commence a Director level role. We currently meet for one hour every Thursday, but time commitments are flexible and by expanding our group, we are actively seeking to lighten the workload.

An interest in improving the experiences of children and young people in the education system is a must, but we are keen to hear how you think your specific skills might add value to our work. Knowledge and experience within the current education system under-18 is desirable for this role, as is lived and/or professional experience of mental health and neurodivergent conditions.

Non-Exec Director

Non-Exec Directors are responsible for the oversight of the organisation and it is a great way to develop leadership skills. Our informal, friendly approach is the ideal starting point for someone looking to commence a Non-Exec Portfolio. We currently meet for one hour every Thursday, but time commitments are flexible and by expanding our group, we are actively seeking to lighten the workload.
